About Us

The St Serra Apostolate – Boulder Deanery is a local vocations ministry focused on creating awareness and appreciation for vocations to the priesthood, deaconate and consecrated life; ‘creating a culture of vocations’.

We attend Mass together then meet for one hour, twice a month at various parishes in the Boulder Deanery. Meetings feature food, fellowship, an inspirational Catholic speaker and affirmation event planning for our priests, deacons, seminarians, and altar servers.

The Serra Three-Fold Mission:

Foster Vocations: Promote and support the culture of vocations discernment and ministry in Catholic parishes and communities.

Affirm Vocations: Encourage and support ordained priests, deacons and consecrated persons in their sacred ministries, prayer initiatives, and vocations life in the Catholic Church.

Grow in Holiness: Assist members to recognize and respond, each in his own life, to God’s call to holiness in Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit.

Pontifical Work For Vocations:

Serra International is the only lay organization aggregated by the Vatican to a primary pontifical work.

A pontifical work is an organization instituted by the Vatican to advance a particular goal of the Catholic Church. In 1941, Pope Pius XII created the Pontificium Opus Vocationum Sacerdotalium (1951-Aggregation-Booklet) to encourage and coordinate efforts to promote vocations to the sacred priesthood of the Catholic Church.

Aggregation, or affiliation, to this pontifical work reflects not only specific support from the Vatican for our mission, but also confers special spiritual benefits on all Serrans.

From the booklet “Pope Pius XII and Serra International”:

Pontifical Work Booklet Cover “To promote vocations to the sacred priesthood of the Catholic Church, many individuals and many organizations have always labored. To encourage and to coordinate all these efforts, and to encourage everywhere new work for priestly vocations, Pope Pius Xii in 1941 founded an organization called, in ecclesiastical documents, Pontificum Opus Vocationum Sacerdotalium.
The purposes of the new pontifical organization were listed by His Holiness in founding it:
1) to intensify the desire for promoting, safeguarding, and assisting ecclesiastical vocations.
2) to disseminate an accurate notion of the dignity and necessity of the Catholic priesthood.
3) to call the faithful of the whole world into a close union of prayers and pious exercises.

This organization is a primary work, i.e., it is empowered to aggregate to itself, or to affiliate other organizations of similar purpose and thereby to confer on the members of its affiliates the spiritual benefits belonging to its own members.”

Boulder Deanery Map

This map depicts the general geographic area of the Boulder Deanery.

Our Boulder Serra Apostolate has ‘adopted’ a couple of nearby parishes in an effort to ensure affirmation attention is extended to all clergy and altar servers as needed.

Under the Code of Canon Law, the boundaries of a deanery are determined by the diocesan bishop with input from the local clergy and are reviewed and updated regularly.
